Dear Donald Trump,
You don’t get to run on a platform that perpetuated hatred, prejudice and violence, and then turn around and “condemn” the very standard that you upheld.
You encouraged your followers to physically assault others numerous times. You have discriminated against blacks, Hispanics and women over and over. You have surrounded yourself with the likes of Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller.
When you did these things, you made it okay for your followers to do it, too.
And you knew the KKK, neo-nazis and white supremacists followed you. You knew David Duke endorsed you, even if you ‘denounced’ it.
You knew the rhetoric was getting dangerous. You knew you were fanning the fire.
You gave them a platform to speak on, you gave them confidence in their hatred, you made them feel safe.
Now, an innocent girl is dead, at the hands of a right wing terrorist; a supporter of you, your rhetoric, and your ideals.
Though you didn’t drive that car, though you weren’t at the rally, though racism has existed in this country for decades, you gave them permission.
And we exactly know why you didn’t specifically condemn the alt-right, white supremacists or neo-nazis yesterday:
you need their vote in 2020.
It’s 2017, and our president enables, excludes, and is endorsed by white supremacists.
